All of the courses that we offer are facilitated by a team of individuals that uniquely qualified through education and experience in the field of Human Services. Core Values of Service Delivery Course Length — 3 hours
Empowering people to have a voice in conquering barriers and following their dreams is a concept that can be applied universally. The heart of this lively, interactive training helps acquire a deeper understanding of our individual passions in order to help pursue a richer, more meaningful life and gain respect for ourselves and others. Through the use of video, group activities and discussion, this training examines routines, activities, and relationships that are important to each individual.
Embracing Difference: Cultural Diversity in the Workplace Course Length — 4 hours
This training is designed to expose individuals to the diverse population of people with whom we interact in our everyday work lives. The course is designed to help participants discover and examine biases they may have toward people unlike themselves. Through videos, written exercises, interactive on-line surveys, and conversation, the training includes topics covering racism, sexism, ageism, classism, heterosexism, faith as an ‘ism’, and ableism.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Effects (FAE) Course Length – 3 hours
This course will allow participants to gain knowledge of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Fetal Alcohol Effects (FAE). It also addresses the causes, effects, and outcomes, while learning techniques for working with people who have a diagnosis of FAS/FAE. Participants will also gain an understanding of the importance of continuity and teamwork to support individuals.

Dementia: Managing the Reality Course Length — 4 hours
This course introduces participants to dementia and the various physical and emotional impairments that may result. It will introduce the Global Deterioration Scale which demonstrates the various levels of the disease. Participants will learn the types of behaviors that may occur due to dementia and tips in coping with the disease. Through the use of group activities and games, participants will learn best practices in communicating and interacting with someone with dementia.
Consumer Rights & Responsibilities Course Length — 3 hours
This course provides opportunities for staff and consumers and the general public to gain knowledge and awareness of consumer rights and responsibilities. Videos, group exercises, and case scenarios help attendees recognize their rights as well as understand their responsibilities. Group discussions cover how policies were developed to protect consumers, contacts for self-advocacy resources and the importance of being connected to the community.
Medication Administration Course Length — 8 hours
Medication administration can be a complicated task requiring both knowledge and skill to safely assist in the treatment of medical and psychiatric conditions. This course reviews legal responsibilities, medical policies and procedures, medication abbreviations and terminology, psychotropic medication, infection control and documentation. Participants also practice taking and monitoring vital signs.
* This course can be broken down into two, four-hour courses.
CPR/First Aid Course Length — 4 hours
Learn skills that could save a life from instructors certified by the American Heart Association. This course covers the most up-to-date techniques for administering CPR and First Aid. Instructors offer current, valuable information in an easy-to-follow format. Skill practice, discussion, and real-life examples are used to reinforce the techniques and make this course fun and informative. This course provides for a 2 year certification in both CPR and First Aid.
CPR for the Health Care Professional Course Length – 5 hours
Do you need Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals for your career? This course covers adult, child and infant CPR, airway obstruction, use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and how to use an ambu bag. The American Heart Association’s new guidelines will walk you through the steps of CPR to receive your certification. 4 CEU’s will be provided.
Psychotropic Paperwork: A to Z Course Length – 6 hours
Confused by all the rules and paperwork? Join others with the same questions at this informative session on psychotropic paperwork. This detailed course will assist you in licensing compliance by walking you through a quarterly review, the PMUC, and appropriate data collection forms. We will discuss general psychotropic policies and introduce you to the MOSES and DISCUS monitoring tools. This information applies to all organizations and provide services to people with developmental disabilities, including waivered service homes.
Tardive Dyskinesia: It’s All About the Movement Course Length – 6 hours
Tardive Dyskinesia can be a symptom of long-term or high-dose use of antipsychotic or neuroleptic medications. These involuntary movements can be life altering for the individual. The DISCUS exam is the most widely used screening method for detecting these movements. Join us in learning about Tardive Dyskinesia, the history, medications, and effects. Participants will be able to practice identifying Tardive Dyskinesia movements and scoring the DISCUS exam successfully.
Person Centered Service Delivery…An Overview Course Length — 4 hours
Person Centered Service delivery is a set of values and strategies used to assist a person in creating a vision for the future and working toward its realization. It is a process that leads to a greater understanding and enhancement of a person’s: Core Values, Gifts and Capacities, Dreams and Visions, Likes/Preferences/Non Negotiables and Opportunities. The course will also provide a variety of Person Centered Planning (PCP) Tools to better support individuals. Some of the PCP Tools covered include:
· Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope (PATH) – A colorful backwards future’s planning process that enables individuals to plan their future in achievable steps
· Essential Lifestyle Plans (ELP) – A collection of tools and ideas that can be used to assist an individual and those closest to them in developing a greater understanding of the person’s values, gifts and dreams
· Making Action Plans (MAPS) – A unique tool to help find one’s way on a journey that increases the opportunities for an individual to be included in his or her community
· Personal Future’s Plan – An individualized, structured approach to life planning that represents a vision for a more desirable future
***For those who do not have any experience with PATH, Person Centered Service Delivery….An Overview is a prerequisite to the PATH Facilitator Workshop.
PATH Facilitator Workshop Course Length — 3 day Workshop
This fun and interactive course teaches individuals how to become a PATH Facilitator and a PATH Graphic Recorder. Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope (PATH) is a colorful backwards future planning process that enables individuals to plan their future. The PATH process begins with identifying the individual’s ideal future, their “North Star”. The North Star is then broken into achievable and time limited steps to help support individuals in planning their future. The Graphic Recorder captures the details in a multi-dimensional process, and the Facilitator guides the process. This workshop offers a “hands on”, practical application of the PATH process.
* For those who do not have any experience with PATH, Person Centered Service Delivery…An Overview is a prerequisite to the PATH Facilitator Workshop.
It Takes All Types: Team Building Using the Myers Briggs Course Length – 6 hours
How do you organize your life and make decisions? What is your learning style and where do you direct your energy? These are some of the questions that will be examined in this training. We will focus on utilizing personal strengths to build a strong team of professionals. Participants will take the Myers Briggs Personality Type Indicator, identify and receive in-depth information on their type and then examine ways to effectively use this information when working with others. Group activities and discussions are designed around successful team building and developing strength in those teams through capacity. This training offers an innovative and exciting method to develop successful teams.
Effective Professional Boundaries for Service Delivery Course Length — 3 hours
Participants receive information about different aspects of personal limits, physical and emotional boundaries and how they all tie into setting healthy Professional Boundaries. Hands on activities allow participants to identify situations where unhealthy boundaries tend to occur and then to apply the strategies we have discussed for setting and maintaining healthy boundaries.
Effective Behavior Strategies Course Length — 4 hours
Course participants will learn tools to help manage challenging behaviors using the ABC method of behavior management. Individuals will be guided in a self-exploration exercise to better understand why we do the things we do and to aid in the understanding of what makes us mad and why. The course will focus on antecedent or precursor behaviors, the behavior itself, and the consequences of the behavior.
Works 101 Course Length — 3 hours
This introduction to supported employment introduces participants to the basic concepts of job coaching, job development, natural supports, and employment culture. It also focuses on job coaching and the philosophies behind providing quality services. There are multiple activities that are designed to educate and teach participants various aspects of the job including how everyone takes direction differently, what giving 100% means, and how old habits can sometimes be hard to change. Throughout this training, participants will experience the person centered approach to service delivery.

Progressive Disciplinary Response Course Length – 4 hours
Many employers follow a system of progressive disciplinary action to manage employee performance; it’s not all about discipline though! This course provides managers with the framework to develop a system that takes a proactive role in managing employment issues. The Progressive Disciplinary Response process provides step-by-step directions for “what” and “when” to document when handling employment issues. It assures that there is appropriate documentation in place to defend a decision to discharge and teaches you to identify and address issues, thus allowing your company to retain quality staff.
