Community Connections
Trillium consumers take a vital and active role in pursuing their own recreation and leisure interests. As a part of the services we provide we will assist with the planning, budgeting, transportation and appropriate supervision required to support individuals in following their passions and interests through a wide range of community activities. Some examples of such activities include:
- Traveling both Locally and to New Exciting Destinations
- Camping, Hiking, Fishing and Experiencing Nature
- High School, College & Professional Sporting Events
- Community Activities and Special Events
- Community Volunteer Opportunities
- Creative Ways to Eat Healthy and Stay Physically Fit
At Trillium, consumers are encouraged to be involved as well as give back to their community, both individually and through group experiences. Trillium supports these experiences through ongoing social networking groups such as Mens' and Womens' Nights Out and a Variety of Parties and Dances. The focus of all of these opportunities is to support the consumers we serve in exploring their options, pursuing their dreams, and enjoying a rich community life. A few other groups that support our Mission, Vision, and Core Values are described at length below.
Nature Rocks
Nature Rocks! is a Trillium Services Nature Club for those who enjoy being outdoors and want to learn more about wildlife and the environment. Our club makes and sells a variety of nature-related items such as birdhouses and feeders (made from recycled lumber), Holiday wreathes, scented pinecones, log candleholders, map stationery, and greeting cards. The profits made from the sale of these items help pay for out-of-town camping and field trip expenses.
Trillium Task Force
The Trillium Task Force is a consumer directed group that actively participates in a wide variety of community service projects and opportunities to gain self-advocacy skills. The group meets monthly for interactive discussions on consumer rights, community inclusion and having a voice on what topics, outside speakers and volunteer opportunities they are interested in. Task Force participation not only provides a chance to "give back" to the community, gain confidence, develop leadership skills and valued social roles, but to have fun and make friends at the same time.
Examples of pro-active projects Trillium Task Force members have undertaken include:
- Day at the Capitol – Talking to legislators about disability rights and funding.
- Voter Registration – Bringing in outside speakers who present voter information which Task Force members use to conduct "Get Out the Vote" campaigns with fellow consumers.
- Fundraiser Dances – Raising money for various causes each year such as the Red Cross, Muscular Dystrophy, St. Jude's Children's Hospital and Camp Amanda.
- Annual Holiday Project – Collecting money to help families in need during the holidays.
- Community Enrichment Week – Cleaning up area parks in conjunction with other providers through the ARRM association.
- Habitat for Humanity – Conducting aluminum can drives to help provide affordable housing.
- CHUM Rhubarb Fest – Baking desserts to help raise funds for low income programs.
- Rummage Sale Fundraiser – Helping Animal Allies build a new shelter for homeless animals.
- And any other challenging, interesting projects that come along!
